Minimum Health and Safety Standards: A Guide for American Indian and Alaska Native Child Care and Development Fund Grantees

This guide provides voluntary minimum guidelines from which all grantees should operate. These guidelines ensure that children are cared for in healthy and safe environments and that their basic needs are met. This guide was first published in 2000 and was updated in 2005.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services continues to develop minimum child care standards for AI/AN CCDF grantees. OCC, in collaboration with an AI/AN workgroup, revised the standards to reflect the new health and safety requirements. OCC hosted a tribal consultation in July 2018 to gather input on a draft of the Minimum Standards before publishing the final version.
